The Aquatics complex at ACC has three pools. An 8-lane, 25-yard competition pool, a warm water rehabilitation pool, and a spa. Our competition pool, the largest indoor pool in the county, is perfect for lap swimming, a stress-free cardio workout, water aerobics, or just playing around with the kids. Our warm water pool (WWP) is great for rehab related to joint pain or a good place for those that want a little warmer water. Our spa is a great way to relax and treat sore muscles after a hard workout. The WWP and the Spa are only available to those 15 & older.

Pool Hours

SAYOR (Swim At Your Own Risk) Program

ACC has struggled to have lifeguards available to cover all of the hours the pool operates. In order to keep the pool open for our members, we initiated the SAYOR (Swim at Your Own Risk) program. Members and guests are welcome to swim in the pool whether or not there is a lifeguard present. All members and guests that use the pool during SAYOR are required to sign a liability waiver at the front desk when checking in. Video cameras are in use in the pool. The minimum age for SAYOR swimming without a parent/ guardian present is 14 years old.

Pool Temperatures

Water temperatures in the pool area can fluctuate. Our staff strives to keep the water at an ideal temperature for all of those using the pool.

Competition Pool:
Fall, Winter, and Spring - Members can expect the temperature to be between 82 and 84 degrees, with 83 being optimal. While this may sound warm, it actually is not. Those that are standing around in the water and not moving will find this chilly. However, for those working out (lap swimming, aerobics,) the water will be on the warm side.

Summer- In the summer we aim to keep the temperature between 80-82 degrees with 81 being optimal.

Warm Water Pool:
The warm water pool is kept at 87-88 degrees year-round.

Spa:
The spa will be between 101-103 degrees year-round.

The boilers for the competition pool are turned off in May and not restarted until October. Due to fluctuating weather conditions, the fall and spring can result in temperatures outside of the optimal range.

Water Aerobics Classes & Instructors

Lap Swimming

ACC offers lap swimming almost anytime the pool is open. Four lanes are generally available except during the times listed below. If all lap lanes are being used by members, sharing may be necessary.

Lap Swimming is not available during these times.
September - March weekdays from 4-6 PM the pool is closed for the PAC swim team.
November - February weekdays from 3-6 PM for the school swim teams and PAC swim team.
November - February - Various evenings when swim meets are being held. Days and times vary.
June - July weekdays from 6:30-9:00 AM there will only be three lap lanes open.

PAC Swim Team

PAC Swim Team is a year-round USA Swimming competitive swim team. PAC is for swimmers ages 6-18. PAC operates all year except for a few weeks in April and August. If you have a child that wishes to try out, they can contact Leah Tunstall at swim4pac@gmail.com. Tryouts are generally held in late August.

The pool is closed from 4-6 PM, Monday - Friday from September 1 - March 30 for PAC practices. In June and July the pool will only be open to lap swimmers from 7:15 -9:15 AM due to PAC practice.

Surry County Schools Pool Use

Since ACC has the largest indoor pool in the county, we are the home to many Surry County Schools Swim Teams. The high school and middle school swim season is from November through mid-February. During this time the pool is used by the following schools.

Central Middle School
Gentry Middle School
Meadowview Magnet Middle School
Pilot Mountain Middle School

This is a lot of traffic for our pools during the winter months. Practices are generally held from 3:15-4:30 PM and 6-8 PM.
While it is challenging to be the home of 6 school teams, we do try to accommodate our members. In November, please watch our site for competition dates and practice times. The pool will be closed to members during home swim meets.

3 hour minimum for all pool rentals
Members - $105.00 plus $40.00 lifeguard fee
Non-Members- $135.00 plus $40.00 lifeguard fee

Youth Swim Lessons with Janet Musgrove

Registration is open now for our Little Flippers beginners class and our Level 1 & 2 class. The class is 8 lessons running from June 13th - June 23, Monday thru Thursday of each week. No classes are held on Friday evenings. You can register online now by using the link below.

Hello, Armfield Center past and future water enthusiasts. My name is Janet Musgrove. I have been teaching swimming for over a decade here and in Bangkok Thailand. I am a certified water safety instructor and well as a lifeguard. I was a competitive swimmer in my younger years and have a passion for anything water-related. I have worked as a preschool teacher and have an understanding of children’s abilities in and out of the water. Feel safe in knowing they will be safe in my hands.

Armfield Civic Center Summer Swim Team - ACC Tritons

ACC operates a summer swim team during June and July. ACC belongs to the tri-county swim league. Registration for the summer swim team is open to kids ages 4-18. Swimmers will compete at home and at other local area pools. This is a great introduction to year-round swimming, or just as a recreational summer activity. Kids will learn proper stroke techniques, diving, and turns. The season culminates with a team championship in July.

Potential participants must be able to swim freestyle for one length of the pool.
